Jungle Remedy

Work in Progress Documentary. Final Running Time: 90 Mins. HD production.

Synopsis : Belizean bush doctor Harry Guy, Sr. has an herbal treatment for AIDS. Government opposition and lack of scientific evidence could keep it a secret. Jungle Remedy treads where others won't by exploring Mr. Guy's rainforest remedy, the politics surrounding it, and the first medical study to respond to rampant doubts and disbelief.

In 2003 Belizean bush doctor Harry Guy, Sr. boldly claimed to have a cure for AIDS. Many infected patients have taken the treatment and shown tremendous progress. However, there is no hard scientific data to validate it. The local health authorities refuse to acknowledge Mr. Guy and without support for properly testing the effectiveness of his herbal treatment, it may well stay hidden from the global medical and HIV/AIDS community. Meanwhile the rate of infection in Belize is by far the highest in Central America. A third generation folk healer, Mr. Guy is struggling to maintain his spirit and determination as he stands up to attacks on his reputation and suspect actions connected to pharmaceutical companies. Jungle Remedy ventures into Mr. Guy's backyard kitchen stocked with tropical bark, leaves, and roots as he simmers and brews this vegetation to be scrutinized in an independent medical study. The emotional and physical changes of the volunteer HIV/AIDS participants are shared throughout the study and via their home video diary. We are present for their moments of doubt, hope, discrimination, fear and strength. Jungle Remedy is the story of a bush doctor who, with broken spirit, continues to stand by his beliefs and successfully treat those infected. It is the story of a proud people who want answers and are not waiting for their government to provide them.
